River infrastructure facilities will be doubled in St.Petersburg

St.Petersburg has a title of the Northern Venice but for this title the city needs more facilities of river infrastructure.
Over the past five years, walking and sightseeing transportation of passengers on the waterways of the city has doubled, it was predicted doubling of traffic before 2025 - both passengers and cargo. Meanwhile, the Northern capital has only 15 sites of river infrastructure at its disposal.
In the coming years, their number will significantly increase. The Committee on transport-transit policy has developed industry-specific layout of river transport infrastructure on the territory of St. Petersburg. According to this scheme 18 new parks and berths will appear in 7 districts of the city.
According to this scheme, it was decided to use complex of protective structures in the area of Gorskaya for needs of river fleet – it was planned to construct service station there. Special berths will be constructed there for ferry service between Kronstadt and Lomonosov. Mooring for passengers and station will be situated in Kronstadt. River stations will appear in Nevsky and Kolpino district, as well as on Vasilyevsky Island. Mooring for passenger ships will be constructed on Obuhov Oborony Prospect. In addition, in St. Petersburg will be organized the first pound for small and river transport.
One of the main advantages of the new scheme of river infrastructure is the fact that infrastructure places could not be used for other needs.
- The directions of the new scheme will be considered when planning and surveying areas – the Chairman of the Committee Nicholay Asaul said at a meeting of the city government.
However, the construction of new facilities does not preclude the need to maintain a normal state of the existing parking and marinas, their repair and equipment in accordance with modern requirements.
- Existing infrastructure doesn’t meet requirements – the Governor Valentina Matvienko said, - - the owners have to invest money if they want to earn them.
The Committee on transport-transit policy was ordered to make inventory and to prepare reconstruction program for repair of exiting objects. It is planned to attract investments for these works.
